4. Introduction

When mapping the extent of the crisis, we generate both maps and statistics, with the objective of being able to quickly and easily update these as a crisis evolves.

This module presents methods for monitoring conflict events, drought, floods, earthquake intensity, and surface change (e.g., resulting from conflict). Of these, droughts and surface change will be introduced but covered in detail only in a second course.
