Dr. Eigo Tateishi is a consulting geographer at the World Bank, currently affiliated with the Global Operations Support Team at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. While based in Tokyo, Japan, he actively contributes to international projects, leveraging his expertise in geospatial analysis, urban transport planning, and policy consulting.

With over seven years of experience, Dr. Tateishi specializes in both quantitative and qualitative geographical analyses, applying advanced GIS, GeoPython, and machine learning techniques to address complex urban challenges. His proficiency in strategic urban transport planning is reinforced by his strong research background, as demonstrated in his peer-reviewed publications in top-tier journals such as Cities. Dr. Tateishi earned his Ph.D. in Urban Studies from Malmö University, Sweden, where he developed a strong foundation in spatial data analysis and urban development research. His academic rigor, combined with his hands-on experience in data-driven policymaking, allows him to bridge the gap between cutting-edge geospatial technology and real-world urban policy implementation.

In his role at the World Bank, Dr. Tateishi applies his expertise to help generate global development projects, providing geospatial intelligence, distilling data-driven insights, and making strategic policy recommendations to enhance urban resilience and mobility.

  1. urbanClassifier (to be updated) - A supervised Machine Learning pipeline to estimate urban typological structure using on-site sample data and building footprint data such as DigitizeAfrica and Google Open Buildings.
