This update revises the previously published global and regional estimates from 1981 to 2021. 63 new surveys were added (largely historical data for advanced economies), bringing the total surveys in PIP to more than 2,200. Furthermore, 2 surveys were added for 2019 and 13 for more recent years. The new survey data covers the COVID-19 pandemic period, reporting 2020 regional poverty for all regions except Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa.
